Wealthy Rollo Tread way (Bu ster Keat on) suddenly de cides to propos e to his neig hbor across th e stree t, Betsy O&am p;#39;Brie n (Kathryn McGuire ), and sends his se rvant to book passag e for a ho neymoon sea cruise to Honolulu . When Betsy reject s his sudde n offer however, he decide s to go on t he trip anyway, boardin g without de lay tha t night. Beca use the p ier numbe r is partia lly covere d, he ends u p on the wr ong ship, the Navigator, which Bets y's rich father (Freder ick Vroom) h as just sold t o a sma ll country at war. Agen ts for t he other small nation in the confli ct deci de to set the s hip adrift tha t same night. When Betsy&a mp;#39;s father ch ecks up on the ship, he is captured and tied up by th e saboteu rs. Betsy he ars his c ry for help a nd boards the s hip to look for h im, just before it is cut loos e. The Navigat or drifts out into the Pacific Ocea n. The two unwi tting pas sengers eventuall y find each o ther. At first, they have great difficul ty looking after thems elves, bu t adapt af ter a few week s. At one point , they sight a navy s hip and hoist a brightl y-colored flag , not realizi ng it sig nals that th e ship is under qua rantine. As a resu lt, the o ther vessel turns aw ay. Final ly, the ship grounds its elf near an inh abited tropica l island and springs a lea k. While Rollo don s a deep sea diving suit a nd submerges to patch the hole, the black n atives canoe out and take Betsy ca ptive. When R ollo emerge s from t he ocean, the native s are scared off, enabl ing him to rescue Betsy an d take her b ack to the sh ip. The n atives r eturn and try t o board the ship. Aft er a fierce st ruggle, Rollo and Betsy try to esca pe in a small dingh y. It s tarts to sin k, and the natives swi ftly ov ertake them in their ca noes.
