George Ha rvey Bone is a com poser in earl y 20th centur y London, wh o is under stress be cause h e is writ ing a piano concerto. Due to thi s stress, he gets black ou ts when e ver he hears dissona nces. Wh en he finds himself after the black out i n a differe nt quarter of the town, he ret urns home, to read in the paper that som ebody in t hat quarter was murdered. As king he lp from a doctor at S cotland Yard he is assured tha t he ha s nothing to do with it, but he is adv ised to cut ba ck in his wo rk and g et some rel axation like ot her, ord inary people . At a ch eap musical he meets Netta, a singer, who inspir es him for a new motive for his conce rto. But Netta di scovers th at this motive cou ld also be used as a song f or her. The son g gets sold , and she ha ngs around Ge orge to get mo re song s out of him.
